Our Story
In 1988, Shudokan was founded in Hilo, Hawaii, by Hayashi Sensei, who was deeply devoted to the philosophy and teachings of Jigoro Kano Shihan, the founder of judo.
Since its establishment, Shudokan has remained committed to preserving the true spirit of traditional judo under the guiding principles of “Seiryoku Zenyo” (Maximum Efficiency) and “Jita Kyoei” (Mutual Welfare and Benefit).
Today, it stands as one of the leading judo dojos on the Big Island, dedicated to nurturing the next generation of judoka and contributing to the local community through education, discipline, and respect.
1988年、ハワイ島ヒロにおいて、柔道の創始者・加納治五郎師範の教えを重んじ、林マイケル先生により修道館が創立されました。
設立以来、修道館は「精力善用」「自他共栄」の精神を礎に、伝統柔道の真髄を守り続け、礼節・努力・向上心を大切にした指導を行っています。
現在では、ビッグアイランドを代表する柔道道場の一つとして、次世代の柔道家の育成や地域社会への貢献にも力を注いでいます。
